Throughout my childhood, I was different to most others. There were people who belonged in the "cool" groups, the "clever" groups, the "popular" groups, the "tough" groups etc, but I didn't fit into any of these categories. I was simply just me and was never comfortable with labels anyway.
As an adult, I'm still just me. However, people still want to put a label around my neck and fit me neatly into a box of some kind. I find myself at social gatherings where one of the first questions asked is, "What do you do?" so the enquirer can instantly sort, label and box me into a category that either fits into the type of person they want to talk with, or not. This is, of course, only if I haven't already been labelled because of the clothes I'm wearing.
As people, we are all the same. Why do we judge each other dependant on what we do or wear? Why don't we ask, "Who are you?" or, "What makes your heart sing?" Isn't WHO we are as individuals more important than the jobs we work at, the degrees we studied in college, the clothes on our backs, or the colour of our skin? (I could go on here, but I think you've got the picture!)
These labels and boxes do nothing but create misunderstanding and hurt. So why do we do it?
After all, when we colour our hair, or choose not to colour it at all, aren't we still the same person?
Think about WHO you are for a moment. I mean, deep inside. Then start seeing others the same way.
Love & blessings,
Caryl ♥
